Karen's New Nikon D50 D-SLR Camera - January 2007

Soon after Christmas, Karen began to look at some more advanced digital cameras, particularly Digital SLR's. After considerable research, she focused on (pun intended) a couple of Nikon cameras. These were the D40 and the D50 models.

Well, like most other retailers after Christmas, Wolf Camera had a great sale on virtually everything related to photography, including some entry-level D-SLR's. She talked to her dad (that's me) about all of this and we weighed the pro's and con's of the various cameras. She even got me to drooling over these incredible cameras. Anyway, I think the final deciding factor was the sale price Wolf had on the Nikon D50. They had it on sale for $500, including a nice 28-80mm AF Zoom lens, a camera bag and free photography classes. It was simply too much to resist and after spending quite a bit of time with Connie, a very knowledgeable and helpful associate at the Bartlett store, Karen made her purchase. She loves it! The shot below was taken at our house as she was showing off just a few features of this amazing camera.

Karen with her new D50

Since her initial D-SLR acquisition, Karen has added several optical filters to her inventory as well as an external flash and a 90-300mm Zoom lens. The pictures coming out of her camera are phenomenal. I particularly like some of the shots that were taken through a filter. Some examples of her D50 pictures are shown below for your enjoyment. She manually adjusted the camera's white balance setting before taking the picture of the flower on the right. Both of the pictures on the bottom were shot using an 8-point star filter with an orange filter added for the shot on the lower right.
